Office ivy Growth

Since last time I posted about the ivy it's grown quite a bit.  It used to be in front of the wire sculpture and has since grown into it, around it, and back down the other side.  Some impressive growth here.  Our office manager said she'd like to repot it so it keeps growing well.  It doesn't seem to have complained so far though so I'm not sure if that's needed.

One of the reasons ivy plants trail out so much is to have more room to put out air roots.  These take the moisture out of the air and help the plant to keep going.  If you feel along the ivy you can find these little root bumps all along it.  These also help the plant cling onto anything it comes in contact with.  They will form those webbing out roots and grab hold of buildings, trees, rocks, anything they can find.  Apparently they don't seem to like the wire metal though.  It has avoided clinging to it.  Not sure if it's because it's metal, too thin, or what.

The white planter it's in has gone through some changes too.  Currently it's sporting sun glasses and a beard.  At one time there was an ear ring but it didn't last long.  I have one of these pots at home too.  It's made to hold your glasses and be a place to put a plant on your desk.  I don't think they though about an ivy though.

English Ivy

So many plants can be grown in an office. This English ivy is one such plant that can thrive in an office environment.  Of course they can also thrive on the side of a brick building so it really isn't surprising.

We have so many office plants where I work but unless you're looking for them you might not notice them.  This little guy showed up and had to be pointed out.  From the side it almost looks like he's growing through this wire sculpture it's sitting next to. which isn't the worst of ideas.

Then there is a money "tree".  I quote mark that because I don't think they're really trees.  At least I've never seen one being a tree or even a bush.  They have always been these spindly little things all wound up in a knot.  It sits near the break room but currently only has two leaves on it.  I hear it's being nursed back to health but I don't think it will make it.  Just my own observation with these things.  They aren't the best office plant.

I've mentioned many office plants before,  The ficus is a nice choice.  Although it looses leaves pretty regularly it can take a wide range of growing conditions.  If I had more space I'd probably get one.  Speaking of ficus trees though, that is also the group fig trees are in.  Maybe I can talk my wife into letting me have another fig tree.  It was the one tree that really seemed to do well and produce food.  Just have to keep the birds off of it and keep it trimmed well enough to keep a good lawn to boot.

Of course I couldn't forget to mention Claudette and her twin, the office cacao trees that are still growing in the same little pot.  One of these days I'll get around to splitting those two up.  The little one is hanging on but I know she'd do so much better alone in a pot.

Arctic Texas

I don't know what is up with this weather but I don't like it. Temperatures will be falling into the teens and stay below freezing for some time. This means I have to find a place to put the cactus that my cats won't bother. I don't want a vet bill for taking out stickers.
Likwise my lemon tree, basil, beets, lemon grass, split leaf ivy, and who knows what else I'm forgetting will all have a new home somewhere inside for a few days.
This along with crazy overtime at work (not complaining), a recent funeral, and trying to get a non-profit garden off the ground, my life is swamped.
